1-2-3 Author Q&A with Lea Bronsen, author of High-Risk Fever

Today, I am welcoming fellow Decadent Publishing author Lea Bronsen to my blog.  Not only does she have a hot new release, High-Risk Fever, to tell us about, but she’s also agreed to be my first 1-2-3 Author Q&A guest.  So, thank you, Lea!

Lea is answering three questions: on Writing, the Writer, and the Book.

On Writing

Do you agree with the adage “Write what you know”?

Absolutely not. I’ll write any new idea that comes to mind, no matter how unfamiliar it is. Any perspective, setting, plot, time period, etc. I’ve honestly described a lot of weird things that I’ve never experienced myself! I just try to get into the character’s head and hear his thoughts, feel what he has inside, see the world with his eyes. For example, although having no idea what goes on in a psycho’s mind, I wrote a sadistic rape scene in my debut novel. Then, sometimes my knowledge is so limited, I’ll need to conduct research. When I decided to write male gay sex scenes in High-Risk Fever, obviously there were quite a few practical details I didn’t know, so finding out about these—and no, I won’t tell you how!—was quite… ahem… interesting, lol.

The Writer

What is your favorite movie?

I’ll never tire of watching the old spaghetti western Once Upon a Time in the West from ‘68 with the quiet, lonely avenger Charles Bronson, the timeless beauty Claudia Cardinale, and the super cool outlaw Jason Robards. This classic movie is larger-than-life, it has soul. I love everything about it, from the grandiose Wild West backdrop, the brilliant casting, the poignant multi-layered story, Sergio Leone’s close-up filming and endless scenes, the sweat, the smells, the heat, the tension…to the epic film score composed by Ennio Morricone (whose name you’ll find in my book, by the way, as a small tribute,) and the haunting harmonica melody!

The Book

I see High-Risk Fever takes place in the French Alps, have you ever been?

Yes, I’ve visited several sites in the French Alps, but the small village and bed & breakfast in the book are actually taken from mountains on the other side of France, the Pyrenees. I spent a few days there a few years ago and found both the scenery and the b&b we stayed at so perfectly picturesque, I had to use them as a setting in a story—and so almost every detail in High-Risk Fever is accurate! Except one thing: I didn’t go up to the attic to peep through a hole in the tenants’ roof as the heroine Anne does *laughs*

Blurb:

Two young and indecently handsome bicyclists visit a village in the French Alps during the summer holidays. Forced by a raging storm to spend the night at the local bed & breakfast, they invade the quiet lives of hostess Anne and her husband, Brian.

A power outage plunges the foursome into darkness, encouraging new liaisons to form, life-long secrets to be unveiled, and steamy lessons to be learned. But once the storm moves on, can the four find a balance and resume their normal lives?

Excerpt:

Breathing deeply to calm her nerves, she approached the unfortunate bicyclist and bent to grab his handlebar.

Surely by pure coincidence, one of his gloved hands landed on hers, curling strong fingers around her small ones and helping her pull until the bike stood upright between them.

Still, even as he stood on his feet, his hand lingered, holding hers firmly on the hard-plastic handle.

Anne looked up into his face, seeing him for the first time. How in the world had she missed such a jewel earlier? Among tanned, Latin features, a pair of black diamonds sparkling with mischief stared back without shame. His long, black locks were swept back in a ponytail, revealing a single golden earring in his left lobe. Large chest muscles heaved beneath a tight, pink spandex shirt, begging to be caressed by a woman’s hand, and black chest hairs peeked from the open collar.

Unable to believe the seductive intensity he exuded, she sucked in a breath and held it while the world narrowed. Her head buzzed. “What?”

“What?” The beautiful bicyclist used the same low tone, his full lips forming a teasing grin inches from her face. He was so near she could smell his hot breath. Intoxicating.

How had he come so close? And how long before her husband noticed?

Thankfully, Brian’s calm, indifferent voice rose behind her, addressing the blond bicyclist. “So you’re looking for a place to stay?”

“Yeah. We’ve already asked in several different villages on our way here.”

Anne tugged at her trapped hand and took a demonstrative step back. “Please.”

“Oh.” Feigning surprise, the dark beauty lifted an eyebrow and removed his hand, allowing her to retrieve hers. “Sorry,” he added, rolling a thick R with his tongue, keeping his lips parted a second too long. A move so deliberately naughty, her stomach knotted with need.

As she retreated, he studied her face with a grin, arrogance and amusement gleaming in his dark eyes, before turning his attention to the two other men.

Blood pulsing in her temples, she copied his movement.

The princess must become the Queen...

Thalia has always known she must return to the capital to prepare for the throne. Excerpt:

The discordant note of a missed strike rose from the coffin, followed by a terse mutter. By the Maiden, was the princess cursing?

A sudden, terrible thought occurred. Was it the princess? Surely she wouldn’t curse as if she was a dockworker Maybe his source had lied about the gear worker being the lost princess. Maybe this wasn’t her at all, and he would spend another three months trying to find the erstwhile royal.

No. If it killed him, this would be her. He was not going to waste any more time on this.

So decided, he intoned, “Princess,” in the clear, strong voice he used to quell conversation.

The woman in the coffin—the princess, damn his eyes—started, and a loud clang split the air, immediately followed by one of those deliciously vulgar curses. Pulling out of the coffin, she glared at him.

His breath strangled in his throat. Heat stormed through him, his cock hardening in his too-thin breeches.

Thrice-damned god, but she was arresting.

Wild ebony hair escaped from the band holding it back while furious black eyes pilloried him, full lips pursed in displeasure. Her worker’s clothes revealed more of her form than they should, the homespun shirt opened to the middle of her breast bone. The undyed fabric seemed too rough for such fine skin, the dull off-white hue a contrast with her dusky flesh. The brown leather harness of her trade nipped in her waist and cupped her breasts, while trousers outlined full hips and long legs, the latter encased in knee-high boots of soft brown leather capped with steel.

Quite insanely, he wanted to taste the damp skin revealed by her shirt.

“What do you think you’re doing?” she demanded.

She had to be the princess. Only royalty could deal such a stare.

“Doing?” he said.

She folded her arms beneath her breasts. He tried not to notice how her action plumped her flesh deliciously through the leather. “Do not come into a workroom and startle a gear worker, especially if she’s wielding tools that could harm her, the object she works on, and your fat head once she recovers herself.”

“My apologies, Princess.”He offered his most charming smile and ignored how the darkening of her scowl made him harder. “I am the tailor, and I have been sent to fetch you home.”

New Release! A Class Act, by Leigh Ellwood

I’m pleased to welcome fellow Decadent author, Leigh Ellwood, to my blog today. She has hot new release to tell us about!!

Madame Eve has struck again. :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~
So here I am, minding my own business and preparing another post for the TRS release party on one of the box sets, when I get word my latest Decadent Publishing story is out early! Wait, what? I have to promo that also? ACK!
Seriously, I'm thrilled. I had so much fun writing A CLASS ACT and I hope if you love M/M you'll pick it up. Enjoy this preview.
Gay Erotic Romance Class in Session, Book 2 (May be read standalone)
All Romance ~ Kindle ~ Kobo ~ NOOK ~ Decadent Publishing
Released November 7, 2014
Barry Kellam receives a mysterious invitation from 1Night Stand and can’t imagine who would arrange a night of sexual passion with him…except perhaps a former student who’s gone on to greater things.
Paul Merrill is the toast of Broadway. While the awards and fame are nice, he wants to  share his success—and his body—with the man who inspired him. But Dr. Kellam isn’t  one to date fellow faculty or alumni. Will he answer Madame Eve’s call?
Excerpt
The fleeting idea that Paul Merrill was somewhere else in Manhattan right now set a chill in his heart. Maybe some billionaire in disguise arranged this, like a super-rich parent he met at an open house who misinterpreted a handshake as a come-on. He shook away the ridiculous notion as the elevator floor vibrated. The ideas ballooned like fantastic movie plots, not unlike the one that would make Paul a household name.
At Room 2401, his hand trembled and it took three tries to get the green light. “Room” hardly described his quarters for the night. 1Night Stand appropriated them with a lavish suite with wide panel windows revealing Times Square in its explosive, mega-watt glory. The waving red lines of the story-high Coca-Cola ad mesmerized him, but only momentarily as he fought to keep his bearings. If his date was here, he was probably in another part of the suite.
The bedroom, no doubt. He swallowed back his nerves, inhaled, and stepped deeper into the living area. Large, suede sofas faced a wall-sized entertainment system. The wet bar looked better stocked than an actual restaurant. Barry’s mouth watered for a shot of vodka.
“Dr. Kellam!”
Barry’s heart jolted and his direction whipped to the left toward the approaching figure. “Paul, thank God it’s you.” ~
Be sure to pick up the first story, A DIFFERENT CLASS!
FDR High Class of 2004 graduate, Glenn Carson contacts fellow alumni to get a list of who will be attending the upcoming festivities. One call to a disgruntled former student leaves him shaken—apparently, not everyone is looking forward to the reunion. Hoping to ease his frustration, he contacts the 1Night Stand service for a relaxing and passionate encounter.
Known as “Mumbles” to former classmates, Rod Maloney would prefer to focus on the present and his successful business. However, past tragedies continue to haunt him, so he requests Madame Eve find him a man to show him a hot time and help him forget his troubles.
Will their one night together lead to a reunion after all? ~
I am Leigh Ellwood. I write smutty stories about people who like getting naked and having sex. Some have more sex than others, some have sex with people of the same gender, some have sex with more than one person, and still others have sex with toys and things that require the use of batteries. My stories range from a few thousand words to well past 70k.
I have won awards for writing, and I have received 5-star reviews. I have also received 1-star reviews and people have looked at me funny at cons and events. I enjoy reading, yoga, and rock music. I liked the 9th Doctor best. I don’t wear dresses. I won’t cut my hair or color it. I will not limit myself to one genre when it comes to writing. I write contemporary, paranormal, gay, lesbian, menage, geek, short, long, purposely funny and hilariously sad. If I never win a major award or make a list, I will live content in the fact that I have written something, and that’s the dream.
